Starting from Helpdesk

ImageI started as a Helpdesk officer.

My daily tasks involved receiving requests, troubleshooting issues, and assisting users to ensure the system ran smoothly.

It sounds simple, but only those  who have done it truly understand.

“Please rush this for me” always comes in at the last minute.

The system keeps encountering one issue after another… and it’s okay if no one acknowledges it.

I only show up when there’s a problem.

But thanks to that, I began to see the world differently.

When a user encounters an error, what worries them is not the error itself, but that their work comes to a halt.

I began to listen more attentively.

“Why did it happen this way?” “Why does this error keep recurring?”

I want to understand the root cause, not just fix the surface issues.

When there are more questions than answers

ImageSometimes I ask myself:

“If the process were better, would they need my support this much ?” “If the system were more user-friendly, would it make things easier for them ?” “If the design had been right from the start, would users have faced fewer difficulties?” From these question, I realized I wanted more: -> I wanted to be involved from the solution design stage. And that was when I decided to transition to a BA role.

The quiet lessons from Helpdesk

ImageUnderstanding user’s pain points allows me to propose solutions that truly meet their needs. Explaining things clearly helps me correct developers, customers, and operations.

Staying calm during incidents helps me see problems more systematically.

Always asking “why” helps me find the root cause rather than just patching up the issues.

-> I haven’t changed who I am entirely, I have only added new pieces to my journey.

The quiet Joys of a BA

ImageA better system means an easier day for users.

As a BA, I get to see the product before it takes shape, and I can contribute to:

  • Reduce unnecessary steps.
  • Prevent recurring errors.
  • Simplify processes.
  • Make someone’s work flow more smoothly.

And that feeling is truly joyful. Not a grand kind of joy, but a quiet one: “ I helped someone do their job well today”

A message for those who are unsure about their career

If you are also uncertain about your career choice, I want to say this:

  • No job is ever “in the wrong place” if there’s something to learn from it.
  • What matters is not where you start, but the direction you choose to move forward.
  • A career is not a straight path. Everyone will have their own reasonable twists and turns.

For me, Helpdesk was never a lowly starting point; it served as a solid foundation. Thanks to it, I learned how to put people at the center. Because technology exists to support people - not the other way around. If you feel that you are not skilled enough or not in the right position, trust that everything you learn today will become your future assets. Just keep moving forward - little by little.
