ARIS – 5 Years of Semiconductor Equipment Software Development, from Technical Capability to Delivery Responsibility

In the semiconductor industry, equipment software must meet requirements for control, communication, integration and stable operation. Software development becomes even more complex when many technical components, vendors and changing requirements are involved throughout the project lifecycle.

With five years of experience developing software for a wafer grinding machine, ARIS has built hands-on experience in co-developing HMI, Equipment Control, Host Communication and Simulator components, along with requirements related to SEMI Standards.

Through collaboration with clients and technical partners, ARIS has steadily built its capabilities in equipment software development, system integration and solving problems that arise in complex technical environments.

Flexible design

Software design that adapts to change

During equipment development, requirements for operating parameters, processes and software functions can change continuously. If every change requires source code modifications, development, testing and deployment take extra time and resources.

Following an Everything Configurable approach, ARIS focuses on designing suitable software components so they can be adjusted through configuration, limiting source code changes for changes anticipated in the design.

This approach supports adapting to new requirements while also making system maintenance and extension easier.

Simulated lab testing

Complex equipment systems – software testing in a simulated lab environment

Semiconductor equipment typically has a complex structure, integrating many hardware modules and different control systems. Reproducing an entire real machine in a software development environment is not always feasible, especially in terms of cost, space and operation.

To address this challenge, ARIS works with clients and hardware partners to research and integrate simulated or functionally equivalent hardware modules, building lab environments for software development and testing.

One real example is the joint setup of an EtherCAT Master connected to Slaves to control and test different types of motors, simulating part of the control functions of the real machine.

The lab environment allows early checks of communication behaviour and software control functions on the simulated modules, reducing dependence on a complete machine and helping to detect integration issues before deployment on the real equipment.

Versatile team

A versatile team, working together across the whole project lifecycle

Equipment software development requires continuous coordination between requirements analysis, design, programming, testing, integration and deployment. In projects with multiple vendors, managing dependencies between parties is especially important.

ARIS builds engineering teams able to take part across the entire software development lifecycle, from Business Analysis, Design, Development and Testing to Deployment and Release.

At the same time, the team keeps its knowledge up to date and applies technologies and methods such as AI, Machine Learning, CI/CD and automation, according to the needs and real conditions of each project.

ARIS can adjust team size for each phase, working with the client to manage and collaborate with other vendors to resolve issues.

The goal is not only to complete the assigned work, but also to help secure the overall outcome of the project.

Capability & responsibility

ARIS – Technology capability creates value, responsibility builds trust

At ARIS, technical capability must go hand in hand with responsibility and collaboration. In complex projects, what matters is not only the ability to deliver work according to plan, but also the attitude when facing difficulties and change.

ARIS values honesty in communication, transparency in work, responsibility for commitments and persistence in solving problems. When challenges arise, ARIS focuses on open discussion, working together on solutions and sharing difficulties with the client.

Combining equipment software experience, a versatile team, technology integration capability and multi-partner coordination, ARIS aims to be a trusted software development partner, not only in the semiconductor industry but also in other technology fields.
